Where did you did you get your sofa?

We are currently waiting for our new house to be finished being built, and really need to get ordering a sofa but feel I've left it too late as we just had our second DC last week. Now I'm worried we will be sitting on deck chairs when we move in😂

Where did you get your sofa? And how long did you have to wait?

Possibly moving in within the next 4-6 weeks maybe 8 week's maximum.

Thank you!

Loaf. I was disappointed.

JerkintheMerkin · 07/08/2023 20:54

Yesterday I ordered a lovely corner sofa from DFS. Took DD there to road test it (as I already had) and we can't wait for it to arrive. The one I'm sitting on now is also from DFS but it's a sofa bed one that never gets used and is just too small. Nothing wrong with it otherwise.

Ikea.. I've had many sofas over the years and this is far the best I've ever had.
Different colours.. covers can wash. Very comfy but sturdy.

Where did you did you get your sofa?

Bhf & ebay, both used. Fab. Not wasting cash on sifas as too many dogs.

Plus they come degassed, so less indoor pollution.

ThelmaBorden · 07/08/2023 21:05

IKEA Landskrona, elegant, comfortable, four days from ordering until delivery
Luckily we are between two IKEA stores, Reading and Milton Keynes but I’m
not even sure if they don’t come from a warehouse.
Packed well in a long sturdy cardboard sarcophagos, which once removed
meant we just screwed in the legs and voila!

Ikea. We previously had an Ektorp, which we loved. This time we got a Gronlid, mostly because its not quite so iconic / instantly recognizable. In hindsight I slightly prefer the Ektorp because

  1. the white covers are properly white (the Gronlid is slightly off-white, so if you need to bleach them - which was our reason for choosing white washable covers, because toddlers! - you end up with very slight differences in the whiteness of each cushion, depending how long you've soaked them in the bleach 🫣)
  2. I haven't figured out how to remove the arm rest covers from the Gronlid without unscrewing the armrests, which is a slight ballache. The Ektorp covers all came off really easily without having to dismantle anything. But they're both really comfortable, practical sofas that can withstand all the spills and gymnastics that our young kids have thrown at them! Congratulations on your baby and all the best for your move! We moved when DD was a few weeks old, and it was haaarrrrd. Give yourself lots of grace getting packed / unpacked / settled in (would be my unsolicited advice)

The Range. Very happy with it. Can't remember how long it took to arrive but wasn't very long.

Hels20 · 07/08/2023 21:25

Soho Home - not cheap (about £3k) but love it. V comfortable too.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 07/08/2023 21:29

market place or ebay? you can get good sofas second hand unless you really want new.

NWSeller · 07/08/2023 21:30

We used to have an Ektorp. we were really unlucky. The cushions were so lumpy and uncomfortable. IKEA denied it was a fault and it took over a year to get our money back. We had to go to the retail omsbudman. By that point the price of everything had gone up (we weren’t going to buy another one but as an example the Ektrop went from £329 to £529). I think ikea just refunded us the original cost because it was cheaper for them. Will never buy an ikea sofa again.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 07/08/2023 21:45

I think Ikea might be the winner! Going to pop over within the next few days to have a look!

Thanks for all the recommendations!

Best kept secret - if you like an M and S or Next sofa, you can order it half price here. You have to go to Stoke on Trent to order but so so worth it. We have the M and S Rochester range https://www.westbridgefurniturestoke.co.uk/ find them on insta too, they’re good at replying.

Thank you!

I presume you are not near an Ikea? I got a fabulous one from them. Very comfortable. And you can wash the covers.

Which one did you get? The Ektorp (sp)

Another vote for Ikea here. We have been really happy with our sofas, they are really comfy and have been able to buy new covers when we wanted a change and they were delivered within a few days

@Tryingtomoveisdrivingmecrazy

which style did you buy?

suburbophobe · 07/08/2023 22:52

@VinEtFromage

Had to google it again but yes that's the one. It's very comfortable to lie on too. I have lots of cushions on it.

The photo was of a white one. Ha! No way I would ever have a white sofa, especially with kids (I have one). Mine has a nice light-blue cover.

VinEtFromage · 07/08/2023 22:58

@suburbophobe thanks. I'd like one that's a little bit wider, but I love how easy the ektorp covers are to change...

suburbophobe · 07/08/2023 23:03

@VinEtFromage

Forgot to say I do have what the Americans call a "throw" on them, 2, to keep them cleaner for longer.

littlbrowndog · 07/08/2023 23:10

British heart foundation £180 John Lewis ,a settee and 2 armchairs. They are a really great charity shop. Bed 100.
and they deliver for 25 £

all the stuff they sell is deep cleaned

EmeraldDuck · 07/08/2023 23:11

I have two sifas, a posh one that took forever to come and isn’t particularly comfortable, and a cheapo Ikea one.

The Ikea one is SO comfortable! I love it!!

We have the Ektorp sofas. They are comfy, amazing value and have the added benefit of coming only half assembled in a box so easy to get through any doors! Very easy to put together though, they just sort of fold out and then you screw the arms on.

As you can see, the pooch finds it very comfy too!!

I didn’t know that ‘throw’ was American.

Thank you for this. I actually want to go and see the Gronlid. That's my favourite. Did you get the 4 or 5 seater? Did you find the storage useful?

We are literally bursting at the seems here so I'm counting down the days until we move. It keeps being delayed and I'm demented now. Trying to keep positive and enjoy the baby bubble. But thank you so much! X

IKEA. It’s now 13 years old and survived two babies. I am saving up for a new one from them. I have their cheap take home on the same day range too. (Can’t remember the name).

BringOnSummerHolidays · 08/08/2023 17:00

Ektorp!! Definitely recommends. I have washed and changed the covers over the years. DCs had both puked on them!
