Just that. Anyone you can recommend? Must have experience with old properties and understand how to deal with damp in older houses i.e. not just shove in a chemical damp-proof course.

Thank you!

I don't have a recommendation of a surveyor for you, but I can say that having spent several years battling damp in a basement kitchen (1870 4 storey house) I finally found a builder who worked locally to me and who specialised in lime plaster. That was the beginning of the solution - I took all the affected walls back to brick and in most areas he lime plastered them and one area I left as bare brick. Ventilation is the key though with all the fireplaces and original sashes here, ventilation is the least of my problems. The guy I found was recommended by another builder who was working on a National Trust property locally. That work was done 3 years ago and no sign of damp since then. I painted over with clay paint which leaves a great finish and is easy to apply.

I hope that helps.

Thank you - agree completely and am hoping to find a surveyor who also views damp that way!

I know of Hutton and Rostron who are specialists. I can't say too much as it's outing but they do proper damp investigations. They cover the uk.
