Ok so I don’t diy beyond decorating.. we’ve pulled the carpet up on the stairs, and it’s mdf not wood. We were going to paint them, can anyone recommend a process for this or will it have to be recarpeted? Thanks!

We did this - Fill any holes you have and then you need MDF Primer first - give it a good couple of coats as MDF will soak it up. I used a small brush for the corners and a roller for the main step bits. Then I used Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor paint which is super tough - I seem to remember it was 2 coats of that. It's been on the stairs for getting on for 5 years - we have a runner on them, it's been brilliant for us as we have 2 cats who literally ripped the carpet to shreds in under 6 months and we needed another solution - hope this helps and good luck with your project
