How long would or does a private sale take? Looking at doing it with our current landlord, we're in no rush but he is.....

Takes almost as much time as a normal sale with no chain. Fastest 8-9 weeks or up to 12-14 weeks depending on how quickly paperwork is returned and how busy both solicitors are.

@caringcarer thank for the reply & info. Have you personal experience of this? Would we need a conveyancer and solicitor each?

You'll both need solicitors for the conveyancing and yours will need to do all the usual things such as searches, enquires, etc.

The only difference between your private sale and any other sale is cutting out the estate agent part and no chain.

The amount of time the process will take depends on all the usual things involved in the conveyancing process.

I bought a house privately from a friend's neighbour. We agreed a price based on what other houses on the road had sold for a few months earlier on nethouseprices.com then both instructed solicitors for conveying. All usual searches were carried out as I was buying with a mortgage. It took 9 weeks because we both wanted a quick sale and the moment a form came we both filled it out and got it back to solicitor.
