Dishwasher - no power

A week ago the machine started to ‘crackle’ and power was flashing on and off. I switched it off at the mains for 24 hours and then it worked again for a week. Now the power has gone again completely. Not sure whether it’s the machine or the power supply. It’s integrated so I can’t test the socket. Not sure whether to get a new one, or someone to come and repair? Machine is only 6 years old.

If you open the door there will be some screws which screw into the cabinets either side and possibly the worktop. If you unscrew those then you can slide the dishwasher out and check the plug and see if it is the socket. Might be worth changing the fuse in the plug too.

Go back to basics.

Put kettle into wall socket. If it works, socket is fine.

Dismantle the 3 pin wall plug on dishwasher and change fuse.

Check inside plug for loose or touching wires.

Rewire if necessary. Wires might be touching & shorting.

If all that fails, call an engineer to check internal workings in the actual dishwasher. If you do it yourself you might negate the guarantee so don’t go there.

Crackle implies either a loose mains connection somewhere or the live line arcing to earth (the case).

If you are electrically qualified you should know how to check the above, if not it is probably a job for an electrician.

Thanks everyone. I’ve booked an electrician.
