Upholstering/upcycling leather stressless chair

I have a gloriously comfy but ugly stressless chair. It’s currently leather which is slightly torn in patches on an orangey wood base.

Has anyone managed to make one better? I was wondering about sticking some kind of attractive pleather to the chair by cutting out individual panels and gluing them? Also sanding the wood down?

I have an ugly but comfy black leather chair that is in OK condition but looks out of place in an otherwise light neutral room. I bought a couple of sheepkin rugs from ikea and draped one over the back and other on the seat.
It makes it look less of a big black blob dominating the room.
