Seller is a pr*ck and left his hot tub in our garden

Completed on a house last week and seller left his hot tub in the garden which was not agreed and not expected. Doesn’t seem in a massive rush to get it removed despite going through solicitors and also contacting him directly for updates on its removal. I feel at a loss…what do I do?

Contact your solicitor.

slimshadyscousin · 27/07/2023 20:41

@Lonnnngsummerholidays I have and they have reached out to his side but they’re not replying…

Friends sold the one left behind, got £300 for it.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 27/07/2023 20:42

That would be your hot tub. List it on gumtree and send him the link

YourNameGoesHere · 27/07/2023 20:45

I'd send him one more message through your solicitor and then list it on fb marketplace, priced well someone will snap your hand off for it, remove it for you and pay you for the privilege.

PriamFarrl · 27/07/2023 20:47

Sell that fucker.

slimshadyscousin · 27/07/2023 20:49

@SaturdayGiraffe I thought of this but not sure they’re particularly valuable in current climate as seems to be a lot on Fb marketplace being offered for free. Also surely seller could come back at later stage and ask for it back?

pretty sure you can start charging storage costs if he keeps it there. your sol needs to get a bit more heavy handed

Just say someone stole it 🤣

Bugger that, aren’t houses supposed to be sold with vacant possession?

Dukeydo · 27/07/2023 21:04

Just sell it - it is yours - someone will give you £200 or more and remove it

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 27/07/2023 21:05

Get the solicitor to send a letter stating he has until X date (maybe 2 weeks hence?) to remove his hot tub. If it still remains on your property thereafter you will charge £xx per day storage costs until it is removed. If it hasn't been removed by (one month hence) you will take it he no longer wants it and it will be given away free to a new home.

IncompleteSenten · 27/07/2023 21:06

I'd get the solicitor to write to him saying he's got X days to remove it or you will dispose of it and will reclaim the costs of doing so.

I don't know if you'd actually get him to cough up but it's worth a go

QuietDragon · 27/07/2023 21:07

I wouldn't bother paying a solicitor to send letters, I would just get rid. Annoying, but easiest option.

whyisntanelephantblue · 27/07/2023 21:10

Sell it. Start the offer at £200

Swansandcustard · 27/07/2023 21:20

Totally don’t pay for a letter. Give it 2 weeks and sell/give away the sex pond.

slimshadyscousin · 27/07/2023 21:22

Thanks all, I’ve emailed solicitor asking for next steps and will see if they can draft a letter threatening daily rental until it’s removed, to be honest I’d like to avoid the nightmare of finding someone who isn’t a time waster to buy it and come and remove it, and I have a funny feeling the seller is holding out until I save him a job and get rid of it myself.

DustyLee123 · 27/07/2023 21:23

I’d give it away.

illiterato · 27/07/2023 21:23

There are hot tub resellers who will come and get it. Try one of them. Just say they can have it for free.

SM4713 · 27/07/2023 21:24

Put a lock on the gate so he can't just access the garden when he likes.

I'd empty it and squirt glitter bubble bath in all the pipes, along with a few prawn heads- so when its filled up and started again- it will be a lovely rainbow of stinking, glittery bubbles 😂

slimshadyscousin · 27/07/2023 21:26

@SM4713 that did make me laugh, I did consider leaving a sh*t in there for him

Changingplace · 27/07/2023 21:29

I wouldn’t faff about with solicitors letters, just list it on FB marketplace and sell it, anything left in a house you buy is yours to do with what you like.

listsandbudgets · 27/07/2023 21:29

You have my sympathy OP. Our seller left a pool table in the cellar.. a huge great thing that looked like it had been stolen from the pub . It even had a coin slot. Astonishingly he sent people to collect it after we sent him a link to the ebay auction which we'd started at a penny!
