Wood Burning Stove Insurance - anyone else had problems?

We live in a Victorian building which has been converted into four flats. At the start of 2022 we had a wood burning stove installed; the building insurers said that they would cover it last year, but have now turned around and said that they will not insure it from now on - apparently our broker has called 15 insurance companies and none of them will cover it.

Surely we cannot be the only flat in the UK with a wood burner - has anyone else had issues getting insurance with one installed?

The owners of the flats have formed a limited company as it's share of freehold - it's like the building is being treated as a commercial building.

I know it sounds daft, but it never even occurred to us that it would be an issue!

I did a market research thing about wood burners, the equivalent toxins compared to smoking/car emissions etc. you're breathing were shocking, I would get it removed. They're terrible for your health and I certainly wouldn't have one if I had DCs.

I have no idea on insurance though Grin

But if you have a mortgage the house will have to be insured for buildings at least?
If that's not the case, looks like you'll have to remove it anyway.
