Harassment

My neighbours have spent a 5 years harassment on how I live my life : I have 4 dogs / 4 cats / chickens and feed the local wildlife , I also work from home as project manager for a IT company . After 5 years they reported my home as rat infested house and allowing rats into their home . The local environmental health team arrived and reported “ I don’t have rats “ and no idea how my neighbours got rats ( they have 4 other gardens backing on to them ). I now suffer from anxiety and struggling to work ( they have also assumed that because I’m home I’m in bed all day ) ( they have sent all this in letters to me prior to the final attack ) I’m so afraid what they will do next and yet to this day I can prove I have done nothing wrong . My mental health can’t take much more ( I’m afraid to leave my house / not sat in my back garden for 5 years ) just in case they find something to complain in . Final note : ( my neighbours are over 80 and I was told my the environmental health - they are over 80 so have priority whether their submission is correct ) I am really struggling - where do I go next ?

Have they done anything else apart from report you for having rats once?
Sorry the post isn't clear about anything else they may have done

BellaMilo1 · 23/07/2023 13:58

They sent a letter 2 years ago to remove rats ( how can you remove rats if you don’t have them )

they accuse us of doing DIY at night because as I state I’m at home in the day

they have accused us of taking Amazon parcels

the list is long

From these incidents mentioned, I don't believe you can take any action against them no.

Re the DIY at night they could report to council, they could install a noise recording device , and that could prove you're not doing it. (I'm guessing you're saying it's malicious, their claim)

RudsyFarmer · 23/07/2023 14:01

You brazen it out and hope they move to a care home soon. Go out in the garden with headphones on. I had anxiety from my neighbours at the back and I went out listening to a podcast with headphones in and I honestly was able to come out the anxiety. Now enough foliage has grown at the back that I hardly acknowledge they exist and don’t think about it anymore.

RudsyFarmer · 23/07/2023 14:01

*zone out the anxiety

BellaMilo1 · 23/07/2023 14:04

I work 9-5 no one is doing DIY we are all a sleep

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 14:06

If they felt that strongly about it they could report to council. The noise recording device would prove it's not you.

BellaMilo1 · 23/07/2023 14:06

Easy to say . I was diagnosed as a suicidal case 15 years ago . Depression never leaves you . I am trying to ignore but they keep pushing and it seems society cares more for someone over 80 than someone at 60 and I can tell you know I won’t meet 61 if this continues

I told all this to the officer that called - statement back ( if they felt it was loud they had the right to blame you ) What I am highlighting is “ are we aware that if a person complains to the council and over 80 “ you are guilty until proven innocent . In all cases I have been proven innocent and I’m 60 and my husband in 67 neither of us with make 70 based on how we fe eg l living in our own

Are your animals a nuisance to the neighbours? Are the dogs barking a lot?

BellaMilo1 · 23/07/2023 14:12

I’m on sick leave - mental health is not something you can put ear plug to sort

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 14:14

Has someone said those words , that because of their age we're believing them?

BellaMilo1 · 23/07/2023 14:15

Their request to environmental
health Was rats but you are aware of the connection of get rid of rats and dogs ?

The quote from the local council

You have a lot of animals - can you be certain your dogs and chickens in particular, are not disturbing them? Our neighbours, whose 2 dogs drive me to distraction by barking all the time, have accused me of harassment when I’ve asked them to shut them up. I’ve asked them four times in 10 years, when it’s become unbearable.
if you’re confident you’re not causing them a disturbance, contact your local PCSO officer and ask them to go and speak to them. They may take this seriously, especially if the officer mentions harassment.
I hope you find a resolution.

AlfietheSchnauzer · 23/07/2023 14:21

Your posts are extremely difficult to understand. Connection between dogs and rats? Sorry? Genuinely confused

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 14:23

To be fair I've had trouble understanding a couple of posts fully as well

BellaMilo1 · 23/07/2023 14:23

Thank for response - if you read my statement . I gave you a holistic view ( they are reporting on rats for years ) I have now co formation I don’t have rats ( dogs barking was not mentioned )

OP posts:
BellaMilo1 · 23/07/2023 14:26

Ok - my neighbours don’t like aminals ( their 1 acre piece of land is concrete and plastic grass ) they have pigeon netting on the tops of their concrete hedge. I was being holistic ( my mistake as I’m guessing you would asked the same question the other way A- why did your owner think you had q
rats ) .

Dogs flush our rats / their wee stops rats so if I have these animals I am already reducing

OP posts:
BellaMilo1 · 23/07/2023 14:29

Not in their submission - I stated I have dogs as they can flush rats out if you have them as per retokil

OP posts:
BellaMilo1 · 23/07/2023 14:30

Not in their submission it was rats only

CuriouslyDifferent · 23/07/2023 14:36

Have you kept the letters?

have you kept documentation from E H startling bit the source of rats?

You might try go to a solicitor and get a letter written to them to stop. You might try police, with their letters.

Theunamedcat · 23/07/2023 14:43

They are probably claiming your chickens attract rats plus what local wildlife are you feeding? Birds foxes badgers?
