Varnishing oak doors

Got some lovely oak doors from Howdens but they're unfinished and very very pale. Want to varnish them to a warmer colour, any recommendations?

Use a stain not a varnish

Will a stain protect like a varnish?

Danish oil, did our new doors over 20 years ago and not touched since and still as good as new. Easy to apply.
