Anyone successfully claimed from NHBC?

We have a new build house; it's 5.5 years old and we're the first owners.

Recently our stairs broke...we had a whole stair missing at the bottom where it fell through.

We now have another one towards the top of the stairs(!) which is clearly going the same way.

It's obviously not fit for purpose and it was clear that the construction of the stairs was sub par when we looked at why they'd broken.

There are three adults (one tiny!) in a 4 bed house so it's not like we have unusually high traffic...

Has anyone successfully claimed from the NHBC for anything?

I keep seeing how hard it is...

No it's not very easy at all and like any other insurance company they use lots of tactic and small print to wriggle out of things. Is the builder still in business?

Also if the value of the repair is below a certain value - think it's about £1500 they won't pay out/organise for the works to be done.

You'd have to get an independent expert inspect your stairs and report on why it failed etc - I'd imagine the value of the repair would be less than £1500

We had similar, the mortar in our garage roof had not been mixed properly, and after about six years the tiles started to slip. Similar to PP we paid to have it fixed as it was cheaper than the excess on the NHBC (although they did agree the claim).

I’ve successfully claimed with no issues at all. We purchased a brand new townhouse and within 4 years, we noticed a damp patch in one of the bedroom ceilings. I phoned the NHBC and within ten days they sent out an independent assessor to look at the problem. Issue was due to the house builder constructing something incorrectly.
Problem was then sorted within a few weeks.
