What is my roof made of?

This feels like such a stupid question but I’m trying to take out home insurance.

The roof is made of concrete tiles. So is it tile or concrete? 🫠

Concrete tiles.

Tiles are the things on your roof made of different substances, usually clay, slate or concrete.

The insurance providers all want to know if my house is made of ‘tile’ or ‘concrete’. There is no option to do concrete tiles.

I would say tiles.

No option for slate or stone? How odd.

Probably concrete. Look up “concrete roof tiles” and see if yours are like the ones from various manufacturers.

Tiles.

"concrete" is for a poured flat concrete roof, common in 1990s extensions.

Tiles

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads Concete tiles are the building standard in the uk. A flat roof is rarely concrete for domestic buildings. A more expensive older house might have clay tiles. General house builders use concrete tiles. I would email the insurance company for clarification. Hand made stone tiles are way more expensive to replace than concrete tiles. So premium will be affected. The choices make little sense as the cost of a new roof is massively affected by roof materials used.

Obviously they won’t insure thatch!

It’s a tiled roof.

Thanks for replies. Insurance company have said they ‘can’t advise’ and I need to make the decision myself 🙄 but I am inclined to agree that it is tiled. Conceptually, a concrete roof to me is like a flat school type roof. This is a normal tiled roof.

I'd go 'tiled'. You can't help that their question is ambiguous.
