What are the cheap and best flooring options?

We want to remove the old carpets in the house we are buying. We want to replace it with something cheap but good. What are the potential options and their pros and cons? We are hearing about lamination, plywood, cork tiles, VT, LVT etc. We also want to make sure that this flooring option doesn't reduce the house value.

Depending on the style of the house and the floorboards the cheapest option is rent a sanding machine and sand the original boards. Then either varnish or use Danish oil and rugs. Downside is time taken (and mess). Upside - very cheap!

We used vinyl in our bathrooms. It looks really good and was very cheap. They make much nicer designs and higher quality these days! They look like tiles. Granted, these are small rooms though.

This isn't the exact one but fairly similar www.tapi.co.uk/vinyl/grande-arista?v8=1
