Room rennovation costs

Hi there - we've had a quote for a full room renovation - top to bottom and I think we're going to scale back.

Floors done, skirting boards redone, new radiator, fully re-skimmed, new built in wardrobes and alcove wardrobe, new electrics / sockets and decorating. It is a big room 5.2M x 3.91 m. We're being advised about 6-8 weeks and a cost of ~25K including VAT.

Does this seem ball park? Thanks in advance for any thoughts

That seems insanely high and a long work span
We are having about 16 windows including four bays , 2 doors and scaffolding for a three storey house and all the fascia thingys replaced for £35k for comparison ( and I thought that was expensive)

I think 5k and 2 weeks is more realistic. You could almost build a 20m2 extension from scratch for that including foundations, roof, external walls and windows!!

We just had a room renovated: it’s around 7m x 4m, we had double sliding pocket doors and a 2x1 m skylight, all insulation in ceiling, plastering, electrics, electric fire, shelving with strip lighting, LVT flooring, spotlights and ceiling light and 2 radiators. 6 weeks work (inc 2 weeks for plaster to dry in February!) and it cost £25k

That’s absolutely nuts! I had my spare bedroom done. Skimmed, fireplace unblocked and Victorian fireplace fitted, new rad, 6 shelves built in alcoves, some floorboards replaced and floorboards sanded. 1k in total and took about 5 days. 25 k is extortionate.

That's mad! I had a quote for 3 new double sockets, new pendant and switch, new radiator relocated, pipework hidden, architrave and skirting, 2 fire doors (one on different room) and pulling out a built in plasterboard cupboard and reskimming - £3.2k for 3m x 3m room(and now know the guy who quoted over charges, having had 3 quotes for different jobs undercut by half!)

Hi! We had a 7 m x 7 m room done recently - new electrics (including sonos speakers in ceiling, led spotlights (16 of them) in the ceiling and 10 sockets (including for tv)), new floor (amtico), walls board insulated, then skimmed and painted and the ceiling skimmed and painted. that came to 11.5k. We live in Essex.

Hi all - thanks for the feedback and sharing what you've done and associated costs. Much appreciated.

We will find another contractor :)

Thanks again!
