Landlord is sprucing the place up. I need some ideas.

After 23 years with the same carpets ive put wood down in two of the four rooms. He has agreed to do the place up. Its 1940’s already the builder is saying it would be easy to do white all the wa6 through. Its that awful chip oard which I sure is holding the walls up. I love my F&B colours but hes said look at dulux if I dont decide I know it will be white only. My flat is a mess but here are some photos if you could give me some colour .

also we have a mustual hallway shared with neighbours and it makes me cringe magnolia and carpet infested with god knows what. The neighbour has t agree to change it.

im undergoing treatment at the moment so its probably not the best time to redecorate but if will be nice to have my friends drop in ive always been too ashamed ☹️

Dulux do colour matches for farrow and ball. Be brave and pick some colours you like. If you pick colours which coordinate for the whole flat, it will make the flat feel like it has been designed and it will be easier for you to choose colours. Maybe pick a favourite colour and then find a wallpaper or patterned fabric with that colour in and steal the other colours that they have used.

So white above the picture rail? If it was down to me I’d drag that Woodchip off and put wall paper up.

Honestly I’ve just been to farrow and ball spent a fortune on testers I’ve no idea but I think I like the lulworth blue gif the bathroom and on the shop she said to do the ceiling in the same colour

Johnstones also do a trade paint matched to F & B colours. Ask if they will use that.

Woodchip paper doesn’t “ drag off “ . You need to hack it off in one inch squares and then line the walls. Ask me how I know.

As @AndyMcFlurry say, you can't just "drag off" woodchip. And if you did, guaranteed the walls underneath would need replastering.

You can get Dulux remixed to sort of match F&B colours. But DO NOT do you ceiling in Lulworth Blue as well as the walls. It is very vivid!

heldinadream · 18/07/2023 15:57

Defo don't need to spend a fortune on Farrow and Ball OP. Get a matched version. So if you put your lookalike Lulworth Blue below the picture rail, you could go with a very soft apricot or yellow above it if you want contrast, or an equally soft sky blue if you want to stay with blues. The rail itself could be white or very very pale blue. If you have lighter colours on top it's more uplifting. You can do dark colours on top but it needs a lot more thought and a tad of daring. I know, I have a red ceiling but only in one room!
And yeah taking the woodchip off is sadly a major project. But you can get a whole new fresh feel without doing that. Especially professionally decorated, it'll perk it all up no end.

Obviously I didn’t mean to literally drag off the wood chip. I can’t stop singing that Pulp song now. It’s so quick he literally came to day I think he felt sorry for me and said he’d come back in the morning start the roof and bring the white paint. I haven’t got time to find someone to mix it and wait. I’m tempted to let him do the white and go over it myself. Here is what they look like. I’m not sure about any of the living room ones. It’s so strange isn’t it how none of them look like their descriptions? It’s the same colours in both the living room and bathroom.

You are looking at the living room ones in contrast with a strong green, so your view of them is distorted

^This, plus the fact you have painted the new colours OVER the green too, which will also distort them and not give the true colour, which is why they don't match the paint in the tester jar..

I would wait until the LL has painted the white onto the walls, then try out the new colour testers.

EachandEveryone · 19/07/2023 11:20

The bathroom ones are on plain white I think I will go for the blue tbh he was in a horrible mood today so I might just let him do his white everywhere am wait til he’s done the floor.

Anyway we can scrap this now as the builder has called to say the landlord has said absolutely no colour. Ive been here 20 years and shes never said that before. I have to be careful of the builder as he often twists my words to the landlord. She still goes on about the kitchen i “asked for” nine years ago. So he basically said she said no colour and the flooring can be replaced. He then said we will talk about the other rooms when he sees me tomorrow. I replied “what rooms? I only asked you about the hole in the bathroom floor and the fact that it needs anti mould paint” im not falling for it! Bit gutted though.

OP just a warning when our landlord started doing our house up it was for 1 reason.

PigeonPigPie · 19/07/2023 15:55

Sounds like they want to sell?

EachandEveryone · 19/07/2023 16:28

No there was a leak in the ceiling thats why the builder came and then i showed him the dodgy floor in the bathroom. He then rang her and came back excited saying she has said to whatever needs doing like painting and I did joke saying lord does she think this cancer is going to finish me off?

as far as I can remember the estate agent told that the freehold only had 22 years on it and that the council owned the land. Well those must nearly be up if not over. We are Londin and the area is due for regeneration so Im pretty sure she wouldnt have bought more years it wouldnt be worth the cost of the flat. I stand to be corrected though if someone knows more about these things.

also she only called me last week to say the new contract is due to be signed.

blooming heck im getting worried now.

Ps just to put things into perspective she owns at least 25 properties in London. Including central.
