Re getting deposit back

Hi it's a slightly complicated issue so please bear with.

We were housed in temporary accommodation by our insurance company. The insurance company hired a relocation company to arrange this and pay the deposit. The deposit was then taken off our claim balance so it is now owed to us.

We lived there a year, we did a walk round at the end of the tenancy there was a small mark on the floor of under stair cupboard that we could not remove. The landlord said they would replace it and gave a rough estimate of £40. We were told we should get the deposit back in two weeks. (It is secure) after a month I contacted them again to see where it was and was told they were waiting on a quote but should be sorted this week. It's been anouther three weeks so I tried to ring. Landlord messaged and said they are still waiting for a quote. Where do I stand. ? It's been 7 weeks , the complication is the deposit is in the relocation companies name so I assume it will be paid to them and they will return it to us so I'm not sure how to escalate this if they don't pay. Any advice?

Do you have the tenancy deposit details? If so you should be able to log in and request it all back. Landlord can then say how much they want to withold and you can say whether you agree. If you can’t agree, the deposit protection company steps in. Personally I wouldn’t agree to anything for a small mark as I think it should be fair wear and tear, but it’s your choice not mine.

If the details are in the relocation company’s name then ask them to request it all back and to let you know if there’s any dispute and take it from there.

Brilliant thank you, we have never rented before so I was at a loss. I'll request the details from the relocation company.
