Exeter - how hard is it to find builders in Exeter at the moment?

Does anyone have recent experience of having building work done in central Exeter? If so, I would really appreciate any information and thoughts about finding builders, their availability, and their prices.

I'm also interested in any information about electricians, plumbers and joiners.

I've got my eye on a house in the city centre, but it needs totally gutting and re-doing inside. It would be a huge project - I'm trying to find out if the idea has legs or not.

Awww, I'm really disappointed by the lack of replies! There are so very many people on MN - I felt sure that someone would have had some relevant experience of building works in Exeter. I'm just giving this a last bump.

We're just outside Exeter and my DH is a builder. It's definitely eased off after the craziness of the last three years, but you'll still have to wait for a decent one. It's def softening a bit though. I'm not sure about what it's like in Exeter, but I imagine it's the same! He's booked out to early next year, for example. Material prices are starting to come down a bit and easier to get subcontractors in.

@Paperairplane Thank you so much! That sounds hopeful.

I’m about 60 miles away from you in North Devon and its the same here too! Everyone pretty much booked up for months! I had to get a builder from the midlands a few years ago to do some work as needed it done in a very tight timeframe…. Much more expensive as the builders needed accommodation too…. But you gotta do what you gotta do to get the job done if you need it in a specific timeframe.

We're 30miles away and we've been waiting for a roofer to do a job for nearly a year. Inside is getting damper by the day but there is no one else! Can you believe that! They are only going for the big jobs or you get a fly-by-nighter.

@Iloveanicegarden Oh dear, that's really bad. I hope you manage to get your roof fixed soon.
