Spotlights covering?

Hi. We bought a house last year and the living room (extension built by previous owners) is lit with 12 spotlight. The type that are flush with the ceiling. It doesn't feel very homely and we can't afford to have lighting redone right now.

I've been trawling the Internet for attachments which to my mind you'd screw or glue on somehow "around" the spotlight to somehow soften it a bit, like a mini shade or something. Anyway it seems this creation is completely in my head only and no such thing exists!

Has anyone successfully done anything to soften a room with so many spotlights?

TIA!

Is the problem the type of light, ie white light as opposed to warm light?

If so just changing the "bulbs" would solve the problem.

My bathroom spotlights (flush with ceiling) were way too bright. It felt like I was under prison search lights in the bath, not relaxing! This is a very basic and very cheap solution, but it completely worked, which is to cut and attach a (heat proof) film over the spotlights. I've forgotten it's there. https://www.amazon.co.uk/LightDims-Dims-Light-Electronics-Appliances/dp/B06WVKMYJN

Install a dimmer switch?

Btw, we have these type of lights in our living room. We never use them, just table lamps.

I had the same issue in my bathroom (who needs 6 spotlights in a 6ft by 6ft room?!?!) and we looked everywhere for covers but there was nothing available.

Instead, I got some Phillips Hue bulbs and I have configured the app so that 3 lights are always off.

I swapped mine out for smart bulbs that go from white/daylight white to warm white and are fully dimmable. I can also turn each bulb on individually if needed to can easily create that "cinema experience" or have lighting in just the corners or all the same. It works well enough for us.

It's better explained with a picture. I can change the colours on them too 😀

Thanks everyone, some good ideas here. I think I'm essentially looking for the unicorn of lighting. The upside is if I ever lose my job I've got a business idea 😂
