Refitted kitchen but no washer

A property we're interested in has a new (ish) kitchen with integrated oven and dishwasher but there's no plumbing for a washing machine (it currently resides in a cupboard in the hallway gathering dust). The property has an en suite and a 4 piece bathroom so the washer could possibly replace the shower cubicle in the family bathroom, still leaving a 3 piece.

Would this be a big (expensive) job?

You're not allowed washing machines in the bathroom in the UK. Where else could the machine go?

If in the kitchen, relatively close to sink/dishwasher, then it wouldn't be a big job, provided there was access to the piping (if everything is in the service void at the back of the units then you may end up having to remove cabinets) and the existing waste was in a suitable location (if not, may have to drill through external wall for a new waste outlet).

Oh bugger. I thought it was allowed so long as it had a switched hard wire (like a shower would).

There doesn't seem to be anywhere in the kitchen to put it. All of the plumbing is on one wall and the opposite wall is blank. The other wall has a full length window.

Yes you can, there are just strict building regs that need to be adhered to.

Any idea where I could find a copy of the regulations @Lalabright23 ?

If it fits in the cupboard, can't you get it plumber in there?

Geneticsbunny · 10/07/2023 16:26

Can't it be plumbed into the cupboard?

Of course you can have a washing machine in the bathroom; it’ll just need to be hard wired to a fused spur with a switch outside the bathroom, the same as electric showers or towel rails need. An easy job for a plumber and electrician I’d have thought. The challenge might be finding tiles to match the bathroom..how about in a cupboard in the bathroom?

Where did the previous owners do their washing??

Could it fit into space removing one kitchen cupboard would make?

Thank you for the responses. There's only one full sized cupboard in the kitchen it could be fitted in which would reduce storage space quite a bit. I think a cupboard within the bathroom to house it would be better.

Sorry, forgot to add, the owners have used it as a holiday home for years so maybe they take their washing home with them Confused. The cupboard it's in at the moment is as far away from plumbing as you can get in the whole place.
