Schools in Hook, Hampshire

Hi,

We currently live near Basingstoke but are concerned about the secondary schools in the area. Our eldest is only going into year 2, but we are wanting to move houses within the next 12 months, so were thinking that it may be a good opportunity to move to an area with better schools.

I have heard mixed reviews on Robert Mays and would love to hear from parents with children at the school. Also, if not Robert Mays, which other schools would be an option?

Thanks

Robert May's is an excellent school. Excellent reputation in the area and got a really good Ofsted report.

Robert Mays has a great reputation and it’s been consistently good. I’d post or search for posts in a local Facebook group and see what people are saying. However remember you’re always going to get mixed reviews - it’s a large school and impossible to keep everyone happy and generally people who aren’t happy tend to be louder than those that are.

Getting into other schools from Hook will be tricky, you won’t get into the Fleet schools from Hook and unlikely to get into the Camberley/Frimley or Yateley schools either. You might get into the Alton schools some years and you’d have to drive them to a bus stop or take them in as no.13 goes from Odiham. The Basingstoke schools are patchy and you’re unlikely to get into the decent ones from Hook.

from being at open day and hearing from others it’s not great. They barely have any staff, kids are always beating each other up. Kids from there have been running and banging on people’s doors at late hours and ridiculous days. My friend had 3 kids kick their door on Boxing Day! And reckon they’ve probably seen them before getting on the bus. I wouldn’t really recommend

This is not my experience at all! You will always get polarising opinions about any school.
