Trimming doors

So I’ve bought these doors.

They are approximately 40 mm too big for the door frame in height. I have scoured high and low. There is no way I could’ve bought 1960 mm doors, happy to be proven wrong though.

So surely the only possible outcome here is it they get trimmed down. On the Co site it says, in fact that they are trimmable. My Builder says not. Have other people done this ? Is it a big job? Is it Mission impossible? Am I delusional?

Be blunt with me is it easier to just buy solid doors and send these ones back or sell them or something?

Yes.

@Daftasabroom any recommendations please as to where I can acquire the solid doors ? Literally my cats break out of the living room every night and run a circuit of the house. It’s worse than having a newborn. I need these doors.

By that do you mean I could do it or I would need some sort of specialist door manufacturer or carpenter to do it please ?

I reckon you'd spend £500 to save £150 door.

If you trim a door beyond the trim limits that are specified you risk compromising the joints of the door, making it more likely to fall apart. It doesn't matter if the door is solid.

So like is it absolutely fucked, what do I do? I cannot buy doors that fit these door frames. The property was previously a rental and hasn’t been touched in 20 years. In fact, probably more. I knew whoever owned it was a tight bastard but it might be all starting to be coming clear. Maybe they just literally couldn’t buy doors.

Contact a carpenter. They will come and measure and order the doors at the exact bespoke measurements.

We did on ours as every door was wider or taller than the other ( also old house)

You can order doors with bespoke measurements. If you don't trust your own measurements you can hire a carpenter who can measure or if you do can just fit - including any shaving needed. Not too expensive but well worth it

I’ve found a place that does it for £400 per door. Does that sound about right? TIA
