Natural Gas Poker for open fire

We've just discovered that the property we're buying has a gas poker for lightning the open fire. I understand we connected the poker to an outlet near the fireplace and light it and use it to light the fire.

I'm going to get the outlet checked by a gas engineer and of course we can light the fire with kindling and a match and not use it, but I wondered if anyone uses one?

We had a (coal) gas one when I was very young.
The house was 1930s and had brass nozzles with taps which you attached your gas appliances to with a sort of rubber nipple. We had portable gas fires and this poker.
The danger of the taps being left on was drummed into me and they all disappeared with the advent of natural gas and health and safety regs.
I am astonished to read they still exist! Albeit in a much safer form.

I'm not sure we'll be using it, the property was built in the 60s and has an open coal fire. I'm not sure I want us lighting anything connected to the gas supply.
