I need a whinge

My old house is back on the market.

In the 5 years since it sold after I poured my heart and soul into making it look fabulous, the buyers have ruined it with bold clashing paints, awful wallpaper, painting flowers on beams, building a large seating area on the decking which makes 2 of the rooms terribly dark, built another seating area in the shade at the back, making a third already dark room even darker, replaced elegant light fittings with bold clashing brassy things, made the lawn patchy and brown, and dug up plants to replace with fake grass.

They've had the gall to put it up for over £50k more than Zoopla quotes.

And the best bit is the agent has said the current vendor upgraded the kitchen with quartz worktops, high end units and quality fitted appliances. And put an extension on the front. That all my work, not theirs!

To top it all, the agent has reused the floor plan we commissioned rather than get a new one. The vendor has replaced a window with a door, so the plan is incorrect anyway.

Whilst I get not everyone has the same taste, the people I've messaged the listing are also shocked it's looking as tacky as it does now, as it's such a change from when I sold it.

Thank you for reading my rant. I feel better now.

While I understand the hard work that goes into making a property to your taste, it's not to everyone else's. I think you're over invested emotionally, and once a house is sold, it doesn't matter what the new owners do with it.

Although I will concede that digging up plants and using any form of fake plastic grass in a garden is a crime against the environment, and I'd be upset by anyone doing that.

As you say all tastes are different. Obviously you thought your home was fabulous, as you did it to your taste, but your buyers didn’t like it, and redecorated to their taste. No doubt their buyers will change it all when they move in. Every house I have seen, I would redecorate, I rarely like the vendors taste, and invariably would need to change flooring too, especially if it was grey wooden flooring, which personally I loathe. A newly installed kitchen would also put me off, as again, they are usually not what I would have chosen.

What they have done to the house does sound horrible, and I do think it is criminal to dig up plants for fake grass, but each to their own.
