Completion Day - Did you leave anything for your buyers?

We are completing on our house sale tomorrow.
I intend to leave a card for the buyers welcoming them to their new home with a couple of handy tips (bin days, etc).
Did you leave anything else? Is it common to leave some prosecco?

Only if they didn’t muck you around!

Dacadactyl · 03/07/2023 17:25

We just left a card and bin info.

The people we bought off of didn't leave anything except an old fridge and an old kitchen in the garage which we had to get rid of.

They also left their wardrobes and drawers when we weren't expecting them to, but tbh they came in handy and we've not got rid of them.

I wouldn't bother with prosecco personally.

RiseYpres · 03/07/2023 17:26

We did for ones who did not muck us around. A folder filled with local takeaway menus and local business flyers; a bunch of flowers and a nice bottle of proper champagne.

DH did the above as well for a house he sold but he also added fresh milk in the fridge and teabags and a pack of hobnobs.

Hopefully we don't ever need to sell again though as it's a pretty stressy process.

Peony654 · 03/07/2023 17:27

I wouldn’t bother. We left a card, instructions for the appliances and a note about a few important things for the flat/building

RiseYpres · 03/07/2023 17:28

But I agree that if the buyers are total arses don't bother!

FigandHoney · 03/07/2023 17:28

They have generally been very good. Especially after our first sale fell through after being mucked about a lot.
They are first time buyers. Nobody left anything for us when we bought our first house (the one we are selling).
In fact it was in a dreadful state and very dirty.
My husband says nobody ever did anything nice for us.
But I feel like putting kindness out into the world means that you might receive kindness back at some point.

I left a list of all our neighbours, details of the road fund they all contribute to, a list of what's planted where in the garden and a box of chocolates.

Covidiokilledtheradiostar · 03/07/2023 17:31

We left a folder with all the instructions, best takeaway menus, a card and champagne. I think it’s nice and our buyers were FTB / no hassle

regustering · 03/07/2023 17:32

I got a bottle of cheap wine left on the wood burner and water ingress in the bedroom

Leave absolutely nothing in my opinion

GracePalmer33 · 03/07/2023 17:37

The previous owners of our house left us a card, bottle of Prosecco and they'd left a few pieces of firewood, firelighters and prepped the log burner for us with wood so it was ready for us to just light on our first night (which was much appreciated as our completion date was 20th dec and it was freezing and neither of us had ever had a log burner before!). They also left some of their log burner accessories for us such as fire safe gloves, the poker etc. again that was much appreciated as it meant we could start using the fire straight away without having to go and buy things. They were super nice guys.

Go for it! 🙏

Chocolateatanyop · 03/07/2023 17:39

I’ve left a card and Prosecco ever since it was done for me years ago - it’s a nice thing to do

Chocolateatanyop · 03/07/2023 17:40

Also if they don’t like something else — find something in the loft / think it’s dirty or you should have mowed the lawn .. maybe they realise it was t intentional

ArsMamatoria · 03/07/2023 17:53

We left a 'plant map' of the garden, a bunch of flowers and a bottle of prosecco in a sparkling clean house. They were first time buyers and very excited about the move.

dreamersdown · 03/07/2023 17:58

We had Muslim buyers so left local treats rather than Prosecco, and a note giving them all of the quirks of the house and what we’d learnt about it. We have always been left filthy houses but live in hope!

daffodilandtulip · 03/07/2023 18:01

Only ever been a buyer. They left wine and milk ... but took all the lightbulbs. We completed at 5pm in the middle of winter Hmm

Roselilly36 · 03/07/2023 18:08

I left instructions for burglar alarm system, takeaway recommendations, cleaned right through, every cupboard, hoovered everywhere, so ready to move their items in. Did leave a card, but nothing else, we have moved a number of times, never ever have we been left a bottle of wine.

macshoto · 03/07/2023 18:13

Definitely a nice thing to do, particularly if they have been 'good buyers'.

2/3 of the homes we have bought did this.

Giselletheunicorn · 03/07/2023 18:13

All I ask is a spotlessly clean house tbh. When we moved 5 years ago had to start by vacuuming carpets and scrubbing toilets before we could even move boxes in. Previous occupants hadn't cleaned a thing.

MegCleary · 03/07/2023 18:14

we complete tomorrow plan to leave Prosecco, all the manuals for the kitchen, notes about bins and neighbours. And I am a sap and have written a soppy note about how happy we have been here, how happy the family before us were who were here 50 years, a bit on their history.
and they were shit buyers but I am a sap

NotTwinsies · 03/07/2023 18:16

We didn’t leave anything when we moved - I was pissed of with the buyers because they insisted on moving the completion date which was really tricky for us (we were moving across the country, they were moving a few streets down). The people we bought from did, which I’m sure was well intentioned but I would have preferred if they had maybe ever (in the decade they lived here) ever cracked a window or thrown a hoover round. They left some v cheap fizz from lidl which was disgusting anyway.

EggbertHeartsTina · 03/07/2023 18:17

@FigandHoney I totally would if they've been decent. We left champers (Aldi or Lidl so not £££Wink) for our lovely buyers who were FTB. We had contact as we'd gone via Purple Bricks and they were touched.

Got to our new house and the vendor had left us brown mattresses and all their shitty furniture.

Selling now and I will still leave a bottle of something.

TowerStork · 03/07/2023 18:21

Our seller left a note about the neighbourhood and numbers for plumber, electrician, and so on. And they wished us well. It was very nice and useful.

InTheMiddleOfIt · 03/07/2023 18:28

Leave it clean and tidy and leave any paperwork for windows/boilers/ etc

I wouldn't bother with a card but I wouldn't mind getting one either.

The owners of our current house left it absolutely spotless but hid some junk behind their shed so I forgave them for leaving the junk.

XVGN · 03/07/2023 18:28

We always leave a clean house and kitchen!
