Completion Day - what to do with keys

We are completing on pur house sale tomorrow.
The estate agent still has the key from when they showed the house to viewers. So they said we could just pop our keys through the letterbox of the house.
It just feels weird to do this.
Also I am not sure about timing? What usually happens? Do you give the keys over before you have confirmation that the money has been transferred or do you do it once you have confirmation?

in our case, we collected the keys from the estate agent an hour after completion happened.

Hello. Thank you for replying. Yes this is what we did when we bought our house too. But I have never sold a house before. So not sure what to do as a seller with the keys.

Our estate agent already had a set so We left any keys we still had & spares in an envelope with the card & champagne we got our buyers.

We haven't completed yet but our estate agents said they do as yours do. They give the spare key to the buyers and you just put yours through the letterbox and drive away!

@Covidiokilledtheradiostar and @lemonyellows Thank you for the responses. Do you just pop the keys through the letterbox before the fund transfer has been confirmed?

We left the area the day before completion and posted the keys through the letterbox I suppose if something had gone wrong we would have had to come back and claim the keys from the estate agent but tbh it all normally works out ok

FigandHoney · 03/07/2023 17:22

Thank you! I don't know why but having a sudden bout of anxiety about the keys.
It has all taken so long and suddenly the day is upon us.

We left ours on the kitchen counter as we didn't need them to lock the door
