Thinking about buying a house in London and found good option .... it's nice inside, but from the outside - does it look like ex-council house to you? Would you buy it? Thanks

Not to me. I live in a nice area on London with quite a few private developments with houses/flats similar to this.

AgentProvocateur · 02/07/2023 12:13

Does it matter whether it does or not?

OwlRightThen · 02/07/2023 12:13

It doesn't look like any council houses round here and yes I would because I'm not snobby lol

TheLongpigs · 02/07/2023 12:14

Not to me.

LIZS · 02/07/2023 12:14

Not necessarily. Increasing developments are mixed. If it is ex social housing you may find the council has a legal interest or is freeholder and can control external works etc.

WeAreTheHeroes · 02/07/2023 12:17

You should be able to tell from sold price information whether the street is social housing. If the street is well kept what does it matter though?

fromtheshires · 02/07/2023 12:17

Who cares what it looks like if it suite your needs and is a good house? From someone who doesn't live in, London it doesn't look like council housing as ours are usually semi’s or flats and all HA houses are new build terraces with the same horrible green door to identify them as HA houses.

Would I buy it? No but thats because its a terrace in London and i can live an hour away on a direct train into the city in a house thats probably a lot cheaper in terms of price per sq foot even taking into account train season tickets. Ymmv depending on circumstances

eetee · 02/07/2023 12:18

Would you buy it?

I couldn't make that decision based on a picture of the outside.

ZebraDilemma · 02/07/2023 12:19

It’s a very ugly building.

MrsRickAstley · 02/07/2023 12:20

It doesn't look ex council to me.

Based solely on exterior, yes I would be buy.

AtTeaTimeEverbodyAgrees · 02/07/2023 12:33

Are these the Estate Agents listing photos?

If so, they could have tried harder - the back door closed, grass cut, hedges trimmed etc to ensure doorstep appeal.

Verite1 · 02/07/2023 12:39

It just looks like a new build to me

Megifer · 02/07/2023 12:43

I'd much prefer to have an ex council house than new build. Lived in both and ex council are usually bigger and better built.

Megifer · 02/07/2023 12:44

I'd say that's new build based on the small windows

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 02/07/2023 12:45

No, doesn’t look like council. The roof above the bay and door look like a high quality material such as zinc or lead, so it doesn’t look built to a budget. There’s been some effort into the design (top floor row of windows) although the whole building looks quite 1980s to me, not council.

Does it really matter what it looks like from the outside? You won't be looking at it.
