New bath stinks

Hi,

Our acrylic bathtub has just been delivered from Victorian plumbing (Brooklyn range). It smells REALLY bad, like stale urine (it was new, in cardboard) We noticed it when unpacking it and now it's sitting in the bathroom to be you can smell it when you pass the door.

Is this normal? Will it dissipate? It's absolutely rank!

Just had one delivered and we have the same problem! Did you get it sorted? We’re not sure if we need to send it back :(

It might be the trap that is not fitted right , that will stop sewage smell coming up

It the bath itself that stinks

Yep, brand new and not installed. The bath itself smells of stale urine just like OP described

50lessfat · 10/09/2023 15:00

Must be rat or mouse pee.

ClematisBlue49 · 10/09/2023 15:07

Sounds like off-gassing (as I think it's called). Hopefully it will fade over time. I'm about to install an acrylic bath, having never had one before, so hoping others will have had positive experiences with them.

Roselilly36 · 10/09/2023 15:21

I would return, off gassing is a thing, but I thought that was more with soft furnishings? I have had baths installed, never had a problem like this though. What have the supplier said about it?

UncomfortableSofa · 10/09/2023 15:25

I had a new acrylic bath delivered a few days ago from Drench. No off-gassing or urine smell in the slightest.

Maybe previous poster mentioning rats from the warehouse is right?

Rakeyjake · 10/09/2023 20:32

I’ve bleached it so hopefully that’ll get rid of the smell.. it’s from Victorian plumbing and we’ve already reported the broken stuff and they weren’t great about that. We’ve lost our patience with them already so I haven’t mentioned it yet. Will do if I can’t get rid of it. Rat pee does make sense… yuck

So, I spoke to them (also Victorian Plumbing) and they agreed to replace it, but our plumber arrived the day of the delivery and wanted to start by fitting the bath, and didn't think it was that bad, so they fitted it anyway.

It still smells, but not as bad. I'm fuming he didn't start by fitting the loo, but he's a good friend and did it for a very low price as we'd run out of money with the rest of the build...

Sorry to revive am old thread. But I've recently received my new bath tub (from rubberducks bathroom) and have the same smell you e described. It's now been about a week now and although the smell is not as strong, j can still smell it. Mostly comes from underside of the tub and possibly the chipboard blocks attached to it.

I was wondering if your smell is now gone?

We desperately need to install the bath now hence why Im hesitant in waiting to arrange a replacement/refund and waiting to get a new one
