Plantation shutters

We’re looking to get plantation shutters for our house as my partner has irritant induced asthma so we need to minimise dust and they’re easier to clean but I’m not sure where to start!

If anyone has them, how much did they cost and can you recommend a company to use? We have two bay windows and two standard ones so I’m debating if we do them all at once or work through the house gradually.

Also, can we install them ourselves? We’re pretty handy having done a lot of renovation work ourselves but I’m not sure how complex they are.

We got ours last Christmas from the shutter store. They are online only and you fit them yourselves. For the money they are great value and look fabulous, but you have a very long wait for delivery. I think we waited nearly 5 months in the end, which considering you pay the full cost upfront was worrying at times! They were simple to fit ( although my husband is a tradesmen and very good at DIY) but I think even i would have been able to have a go.

I got mine ( a small window ) from John Lewis - I am not sure they would be the cheapest but the chap came out and measured and fitted so I was happy with that as not sure I could have done those two things myself - so maybe worth checking the price to see whether worth it

I'm in South East and I got Shaker bifold shutters in the bedroom for a large window. I suffer from insomnia and this was the best option for me and then cafe plantation shutters in the living room bay window. Cost around £2,000. Used a family company recommended by a friend. They were brilliant.

We used ShuttersUp. About £800 I think for 3x windows (about 1.5m x 1.5m), though this was a few years ago. It took ages for them to come, but we've been happy with them.
