Surveyor and estate agent

I appreciate I mihht be adding an extra layer but the estate agents keep saying put us in touch with your surveyor. I said id liaise on timings as they were away on holiday and get back to the. The surveyor is now back and wants to arrange access and said give me the details so I can call the estate agents. Is this always the way it's done. Our estate agents have been awful. I really don't like or trust them and I dont really want them being in more contact than is needed with the surveyor. AIBU?

Are you asking whether you should put your surveyor in touch with the agents you are buying through? Then yes, absolutely

Wednesdayonline · 15/06/2023 21:35

Our surveyor just contacted our estate agent direct to arrange a time for the survey. But I don't see why you couldn't be the intermediary to arrange dates and a time, although the estate agents would still probably need to let them in?

A survey on the house you are buying? Who else has the phone number for the vendors so it can be arranged? Neither you or the surveyor can actually contact anyone to make an appointment for the survey other than going through the estate agent, or maybe through both sets of Solicitors (which would be a slow process).

Just hand the details over if you want this sale to progress.

I appointed a surveyor gave them the address and name of the EA and left them to it.

Thanks for your replies. Well i perhaps wrongly assumed I could organise the date and time with our estate agent who we are buying from and the surveyor. I appreciate they'll have to let them in but we need to do another viewing so thought we'd kill two birds with 1 stone and then obviously leave the surveyor there as they'll need substantially more time. If its always the way it's done then I won't argue. Ive just had bad experiences with the estate agent and they've lied about a few things. But if everyone does it one way I won't try and change that.

The Estate agent will give the surveyor the keys assuming Vendor is at work, they cannot do this with you. Nor will the surveyor want you there while they’re trying to do their job.

CatsOnTheChair · 15/06/2023 22:20

Hang on.
Which estate agent do you dislike?
The agents selling your house need nothing to do with the surveyor for the house you are buying.

You say our estate agent, and house buying in the same sentence. The estate agents work for the sellers.

CatsOnTheChair · 15/06/2023 22:21

PS don't try and have a second viewing when the surveyor is there.

llyh · 15/06/2023 22:31

OK noted. Thanks everyone for your replies. Appreciate it

Why would you want to play telephone tennis arranging this and not just let the surveyor sort it out for you?

pilates · 16/06/2023 22:15

Yes quite normal and easier for everyone involved

XVGN · 18/06/2023 15:26

MY estate agent. Classic error. Sorry for laughing.
