Velux windows dark at night when open

Is there anyway this is possible? Planning to get the blackout roller blinds but do any of the other solutions offered by velux actually enable you to open the windows at night and kee the room dark? They're top hung so can open outwards or inwards. Thanks so much

No, you only get light block if the window is closed, or on the catch if you have one. We've got a black out blind on ours as it's over the stairwell and we leave it closed most of the summer to stop the heat building up. Works really well, and we bought direct from Velux. Ours has a solar powered battery and a switch on the wall.

Thanks so much, can't believe it's only occurred to me now it's going to be a problem in the summer. I think just have to try and remember to shut them up for the kids before we go to bed or it's going to be a very early morning wake up call!

Velux do external blinds that are anti-heat and blackout. If the window is open then, yes, there will be some light coming in but if the temperature is lower in the room due to the external blinds then you may only need the window open a small amount (or with the vent open only).

I currently sleeping in a room with 2 velux window on the same side. It gets very warm.

I open them up full in the evening, turn off lights (so no insects are attracted into the room) and close the door.

The room is nice and cool when I go to bed (even in this recent weather). I leave one velux open about 4inches overnight.

Although I have always previously slept in a darkened room, I am finding that I’ve got used to this fairy quickly. I don’t think it’s waking me any earlier.
