Where did you get your sofa

We need to get a new sofa. My husband quite likes tge look of the Freeman from CotswolCo. It was also very comfortable to sit on. But not sure how well it will last based on the handful of reviews. Where did you get your sofas from and are you happy with them?

Ours is from James and Rose, still looks new after 5 years, very comfortable and good value. Had a minor problem with one leg once, they sent someone to repair very swiftly. Would buy from them again.

DFS.

I wouldn't have considered it (snobbishness, I'll admit) but we had a truly awful one from Loaf that was so uncomfortable. Every time I went to a friend's house and they had a lovely comfy sofa I asked them where it was from and everyone said DFS.

So we have one now. And it's beautifully comfortable.

DFS French Connection Zinc range. Sooooooo comfortable and looks great. Can't go wrong.

AlwaysPlayingYellowCar · 15/06/2023 08:51

I would never buy a sofa without being able to sit on it and try it out first. How are you all willing to risk ordering online?!

LibertyLily · 15/06/2023 09:57

Current sofas are from Sweetpea and Willow (living room, where we also have an unbranded love seat that came from ebay) and Marks and Spencer (kitchen). Additionally we have a small antique sofa in our bedroom which is rarely used.

The M&S one - a velvet 'Dante' - was another ebay find. £500 for second hand, but very comfortable. The Sweetpea & Willow, purchased new, otoh, looks stunning but is very high and seating hard. Admittedly we bought it for the design as we wanted one with antique styling.

I actually prefer a squishy sofa such as the fab pair of Tetrads we had years ago.

Others we've had include Multiyork (very good, shame they went bust), John Lewis (good quality, not terribly comfy), DFS (ok quality, uncomfortable). We've also had a few vintage sofas over the years - in fact one of our best sofas for snuggling/napping was a curved antique one we got for £200 ten years ago. Sadly it succumbed to carpet moths and had to go.

I'm already eyeing up a new living room sofa and will probably go for one (possibly the Isaac) from Sofa.com.

I had an IKEA one and it was great. Currently have an 8 year old DFS sofa abs it's also great.

GasPanic · 15/06/2023 10:16

nabru.

Wouldn't say it is the most stylish, but can be taken to bits and moved anywhere.

All the covers are removable (including the arms) and washable and you can order spare sets if you wish.

Luckingfovely · 15/06/2023 10:26

My current sofa is from Loaf and I hate it. Far too deep unless you're 6'4' or taller. It actively makes my back problems worse and I've had to buy other chairs to sit on.

They look beautiful when new. Great for lying down on. Hopeless for sitting on for normal people.

beguilingeyes · 15/06/2023 10:35

Ebay! i hadn't ever thought of buying furniture on Ebay but a friend had bought a beautiful sofa and a Smeg cooker..both from Ebay.
When we moved last year we bought two Old Boot leather sofas, a dining table and chairs and a garden set for a fraction of the new prices.

DFS.

I was looking around for ideas as I had looked in Ikea but the quality looked not as good as some family and friends' sofas. I looked at other places but thought DD would just destroy them.

So we walked into DFS and was having a look round and at the back was an ex-display sofa and armchair that was perfect. We then found it came with another armchair and footstool. So took it all.

Mine’s from ikea and I would definitely get one from there again - so much cheaper than most sofa companies, quality is just as good and washable removable covers! Your picture looks like the sofa is really deep, wouldn’t be comfortable for people without long legs?

Came on to say this- ikea all way now.

There are companies doing every kind of cover imaginable now too

BungalowBuyer · 15/06/2023 12:01

My current sofas are from SCS and probably 20 years old.

Bluevelvetsofa · 15/06/2023 17:45

Two from Next, which are about five years old. A corner sofa from DFS, but one of the more expensive ranges. One from online, which is used much less often.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 15/06/2023 17:51

One from a local furniture shop called Mrs Robinson and the other from Heals.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 15/06/2023 17:53

The Heals one is years old and considering replacing it and getting one from Do South which is a local furniture shop. Going to check Next etc too. Have had DFS in past which were ok and got Ikea sofa bed.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 15/06/2023 17:54

Age of Mrs Robinson one is 6 years old and Heals one at least 15 years old, bought with ex.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 15/06/2023 17:59

The ikea is very comfy and so surprisingly enough are the other two though they’re more “design” sofas. The Heals one I’ve not regretted especially.

scrantonelectriccity · 15/06/2023 18:04

I've got a Snug Big Chill sofa, I've only had it a few weeks so can't say how long it lasts but it's really comfy and beats my cheap Argos one I had before!

WittynotPretty · 15/06/2023 18:19

Delcor. Relatively small firm in the NE Bought my first sofa from them 20+ years ago with a legacy from my gran. I still have it and when I wanted a second one, as well as recovering the original Delcor made me an exact copy from scratch even though it’s no longer a model they do. They did a beautiful job on both. Their prices are similar to top end high street (eg John Lewis) but with real craftsmanship & care built in - and a lovely firm to deal with.

27percent · 15/06/2023 18:21

Ikea - washable covers and comfortable - would have loved something a little more refined but practicality won and I am glad it did - we had a massive wine spill one month after we bought it and then the dog became incontinent...and the sofa still looks perfect.

Whataretalkingabout · 15/06/2023 19:47

We had ours custom built. Leather is still perfect condition after 33 years!
Not really that expensive when you compare today's prices or cost to replace .

mondaytosunday · 15/06/2023 19:58

I got this at Citysofa about 20 months ago. Very comfortable and has handled two dogs, two cats and two teens pretty well so far!

Yeah, we thought that too until we actually shat in them.

Nearly fell off my M&S sofa laughing when I read this.
Thank you for a great moment in my quick break from marking.

Spacie · 16/06/2023 15:39

IKEA 14 years ago. And still going strong. They were meant to be a stopgap until we found "the one".😅
