Spending money to do up our rental

Housing association, secure, two bed new build - decided to sit tight and watch the market for now since its forecast to be the worst, most expensive time for mortgages since 1990s housing crash. Negative equity is too big a risk for us.

We can decorate how we like im just not sure if painting is a waste of money given it’s not directly going to benefit us since we don’t own the house? We are hoping to TTC here later this year too and depending how long we live here/if a bargain does come up, we might have baby here too, so 2nd room will be their room with possibly a small dressing section for us. Thinking we will invest in new chest of drawers and maybe some nice pictures for the walls, as well as better bathroom storage. Has anyone got anymore ideas?

In terms of "increasing the value of something you don't own" painting somewhere probably adds value for maybe five years max, on a diminishing basis. In other words in approx five years it will be starting to look scruffy and ideally needs doing again.

On the basis that you might well be there for five years you will get just about all of the value out of the decoration, so I'd say just go ahead and get it how you want.

It depends on how you paint it, whether it adds value! It's HA, secure, do it up the way you want it, and the next tenant has to deal with it. No value added or lost.

Of course it will directly benefit you if you get the enjoyment of having it how you want.

Keep an eye out on Facebook Marketplsce for things. People sell paint sometimes and you can get some good quality furniture at a decent price.
