I am doing first floor extension. We have two bedrooms and a bathroom in the middle in the first floor rear side. I would like to have clerestory window in the bath room and picture window in one of bedroom as we have big tree next to the window. one of my friends suggested that it won't look good from outside as all windows will not be aligned.
Would like to know do the rear windows need to be aligned?

They are correct but I don't know what you mean by "need" to be aligned. Do you mean for planning permission?

I have seen loads of houses where they are not at the back.

Your friend is being silly. The front matters.

Do what you want to do.

Structurally, it depends on things like supporting walls and lintels, you may need to check that. Visually, it's up to you so long as it doesn't infringe planning or building regs.
