Tenants disputes with neighbours

Got a small problem with my tenant. He is in dispute with his neighbours and seems to think I can intervene in some way. Do I have any obligation to do so?
It's complicated. But involves a cat!

No I don't believe you any obligation. What's the dispute?

explainthistomeplease · 11/06/2023 17:44

It's honestly very confusing! I got it chapter and verse this morning. The cat is another neighbour's pet which keeps encroaching and yowling in tenant's garden. I don't want to get involved! They're also miffed that someone keeps using their drive to do turns with their car (it's a cul de sac type situation). I really don't have the bandwidth! So I was hoping for a reply which said no.. not the landlord's responsibility!

I don't think either of these are a LL responsibility

Not the landlord's responsibility.

Tell tenant to talk with the cat owner, and tell them they can put up a "private driveway no turning" sign if they wish.

FloweryName · 11/06/2023 18:18

Not your responsibility, but I do have sympathy with your tenant because the cat owing neighbours have responsibility but apparently can’t be arsed.

I’d say the most you can do is give permission for cat deterrents to be installed at their expense.

Apparently lion poo can put off unwanted cat visitors. Can you put a chain in for him across the driveway to stop the casual turners?

BlueMongoose · 11/06/2023 20:14

There isn't much you can do about cats when they are a ruddy nuisance, unfortunately. If it's a Tom, they tend to yowl more in the spring, so it may subside. Of course, people should have their Tom cats neutered, but they don't. Cats murdering birds and small mammals and crapping all over my garden, and tomcats spraying in my doorways etc. annoys me a lot more than the yowling, TBH.

@PocketCall

Urban myth.

Thanks all. I'm glad I don't have to get involved (I hate conflict!) with the cat business. But I may look at the chain option.

Absolutely not your responsibility, close this down as quickly and politely as you can and make it clear you can’t get involved.
