Cleaning before vacating

Hi everyone

Daft question really, but when/how do you clean the property you've sold before new owners move in? We are in that 'getting everything sorted' phase where the house is in chaos. Removers due to come and pack the day before we move out but that won't leave me much time to do a proper deep clean. What is the normal expectation for leaving a property clean?
Thanks 😊

I deep clean room by room whilst packing so that on moving day, I just have to give the kitchen and bathroom a wipe, then do one final hoover.

Sorry, I see you are having packers-never had that luxury!

MyBeloved · 11/06/2023 11:38

@FishOnABicycleMadeForTwo thanks for your replies. We have never had this luxury before either!
Think the room by room method is a good idea though.
How clean should it be though?!

Once there is no furniture, rooms are fairly quick to clean!

I do the room by room too and with packers it is easy. I usually try to leave the house as immaculate as possible, just as I would want to find it. Sadly not all sellers seem to do this and it is so frustrating to have to clean a new house before your furniture goes in.

We did as many of the bigger jobs like cleaning paintwork, windows, inside cupboards etc in the week or so before the packers came.

Then our movers loaded room by room, so it was easy enough to whizz round with the hoover and wipe over any surfaces that needed it room by room. It was less stressful than I thought it would be, tbh.

I’ve deep cleaned every property I’ve left, and I’ve never moved into one where the previous owners have done the same, so I have to clean that too! 😡😡😡

dreamersdown · 11/06/2023 14:08

I’m literally doing this today! Stuff was packed and removed yesterday. Today we are doing cupboards, deep cleaning bathrooms, skirts and windows etc. When the movers pick up the last bits tomorrow I will mop and hoover. As PP said, it’s wild how much easier it is to clean an empty house.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like a good plan @hettiethehare . And yes, I totally agree, it would be so nice if our vendor also deep cleans for when we move in. The person who ladt owned my current property didn't...there was mould in the oven 😱
Hope your move goes well @dreamersdown 🙏

Personally we packed everything and moved it all into the centre of two of the largest rooms, then cleaned everywhere else.

A quick vacuum in the rooms we had stored stuff in after it was gone.

If the removal people are packing for you, I would ask them to do room by room...once a room is done, move in behind them and clean.

Not sure what sort of 'deep clean' you are planning. Personally we just hoovered everywhere and wiped all the surfaces. Once a room is empty there isn't all that much left to clean.
