Moving in with prepayment meters

Does anyone know what to do when you move into a property with prepayment meters? If there is no credit how quickly can you get a replacement card/key or whatever details you need to top up? Does it potentially mean being stuck with no gas or electric for days?

You call them and they will either send you to a shop to get a card or key programmed for you. If no shop nearby stocks them then they will send an engineer to put some emergency credit and send you a card inthe Mail.
