New loft hatch and loft ladder

We've recently moved into an older property which has a tiny loft hatch and no ladder.

We're thinking of having a new hatch put in, in a different part of the loft, and an access ladder installed.

I've seen an advert from a firm claiming they can do this with prices "starting from" £499. So I'm assuming it's a lot more.

Has anyone had this done, and roughly how much did it cost?

Thanks

I had this done in 2021. A new loft hatch, bit of boarding, moved some wires, extending ladder.

Cost including Vat £588.

I thought it was expensive when I got the quote but they had to work all day and the ladder is top quality as is the hatch so I felt it was a job well done tbh.

Can u go onto your local fb page for the town/village and ask for recommendations. This is how I've found all the traders when I moved into a new town and an older property. Some of the bigger national firms don't have their own staff but sub the work out so I'm always a bit wary.

We had this done about 10 years ago, so prices probably have gone up a fair bit, but it was only about £400 for a larger hatch and a sturdy folding ladder.
We didn't have the boards put down at the same time though, we had someone do that later and I think it was an extra £100 or so.

Thanks everyone, really helpful.

We're wary of doing it ourselves, to be honest I'd rather pay someone. I'll get some quotes, but I didn't even want to start down that road if it was going to cost over £1k. Reassuring to know it's probably not going to be that much.

We had ours done, spring ladder and loft boarded, light and switch put in, it cost about £1k inc VAT in 2015 (south east)

It would be interesting to hear what the quotes are when you get them op.
