Shower cabin or regular shower?

Would be interested in experiences of shower cabins please. Our builder has suggested we consider one as it should minimise the chance of leaks longer term. They do seem bells and whistles though with extra jets etc so keen we don't risk other maintenance issues later. Thanks in advance.

Is there something about your property which means that regular fittings might be more susceptible to leaking or mean water escape would be difficult to address? Otherwise, it’s really not a major concern. I’ve lived in a dozen homes in my lifetime and have never had a shower that leaked (or at least nothing beyond a bit of a drip that wasn’t fixable by replacing a washer or recaulking.) I wouldn’t have a shower cabin unless you really wanted one and would say you’re more likely to have maintenance issues with one than with a regular set up.

I have a friend who used to have one. I know the additional electrics required for the bathroom were a bit of a pain and whilst I don’t think they had any particular issues with it, they didn’t sing its praises either, so it doesn’t appear to have changed their lives!

Thanks both, the issue is that the current shower (accessible but on second floor above light fittings below) leaks and our builder is struggling to see where so has suggested a cabin would minimise further occurrences.
