Looking to buy in South Shields, to be closer to family, and I love this house.

Are any of you from the area? I grew up there but haven't lived there for a long time. I would appreciate any advice. TIA.

I'm not from the area but a quick look of google maps shows you are near good transport links, outstanding and good schools, amenities, hospitals, parks and a beach more of less on your doorstep.

The house is immaculate for it's type. The only downside is you're very overlooked, but at that price you are getting a lot of good points for your money.

Newcastle isn't far away for job opportunities and city shops, restaurants and bars.

Living there would give you and your family the opportunity to enjoy a varied life with something for everyone.

Hopefully some people will reply and tell you what living there is like from personal experience soon.

I think it's nice, what are your priorities for a house?

PyjamaFan · 31/05/2023 09:57

Thanks Flunkey, you have confirmed lots that I was thinking too.

Priorities, location is very important, good transport links and a nice area.

House, within budget and with no, or very little, work needed.

It looks like it has a nice feel to it. The garden is overlooked but if you don't mind that then go for it.

MG1412 · 31/05/2023 10:25

I'm not from the area but it's a beautiful house and very well presented. Two things I would think about are: a downstairs toilet if it's going to be a family home; if you have a cat and/or a dog, or are planning to have one, is it a quiet road with not much traffic.

SmurfHaribos · 31/05/2023 10:27

Yes.

TokyoSushi · 31/05/2023 10:30

It's lovely. The only small thing is that the fences in the garden look very low which might be a pain for being overlooked/annoying kids etc, but otherwise looks great.

Coronationstation · 31/05/2023 10:31

yes

BungalowBuyer · 31/05/2023 10:37

The houses behind look to be set quite well back, I find you have to stand in a garden to really assess if it's overlooked and whether it's a problem.

That's a good suggestion

This is a nice area and not far from the Metro Station, town centre, beach and Tyne Tunnel.

Lot’s of lovely restaurants and parks around the area and easy access to Newcastle, Sunderland and the coastal route to Northumberland.

Very friendly people and a lovely part of the country to live in.

It has a lovely feel to it and I love how close it is to the beach. If it was what I was looking for, then I would go for it.

summerfinn · 31/05/2023 11:33

That's a lovely house. Not to sure about the garden though. But the inside is nice. Great value too.

PyjamaFan · 31/05/2023 11:37

Yes the closeness to the beach is a massive advantage

For me I’d prefer to live nearer to westoe village and I think it’s overpriced if you look at street prices but if you don’t mind paying a premium and over market for the work they’ve done vs doing up a place could be worth it

this recently went under offer nearby obviously a yarden https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/132627137#/?channel=RES_BUY

Check out this 3 bedroom terraced house for sale on Rightmove

They’ve been trying to sell since last Sept , initially at £275k so a cheeky offer might be accepted

They’ve changed agent recently so the add looks more recent

Interesting!

Yes a lower offer might be worth a think. Thank you x

Looks like it's been done up to sell.

Was sold originally for £168K in 2019 and now is at £275K.

That's one hell of an uplift.

You'd be beating the highest price ever paid in that road by about £70K in 2021.

It does look nice, but even so I think the pricing is ambitious, which is why it hasn't sold. £107K for that work in an area (NE33) that has seen pretty much zero price growth since 2019 feels a lot to me.

hexsnidgett · 31/05/2023 18:33

No, open plan kitchen/living room is a dealbreaker for me.

TattiePants · 31/05/2023 18:42

I agree with other posters that it’s a bit overpriced so I’d go in with a lower offer. I’m a few miles south and having the beach so nearby is a big plus. You’re close enough to South Shields town centre, Ocean Rd for fabulously Indian restaurants and the metro plus a short commute to Newcastle or Sunderland.

You might be able to get a downstairs loo under the staircase.

Crucible · 31/05/2023 18:47

Gorgeous house, area looks lovely (sobbing a bit at how much you get for that price. Sucker from London replying. 🥺)
