Help with knackered conservatory

So I have a conservatory built off my lounge. It has walls either end and the roof is wooden beams supporting plastic roof. The roof leaks a bit but apart from that the beams are sound. The floor is a patio and the leaks just drain away. Along the length of the conservatory is a wall that supports the windows. All the windows are blown. The wood surrounding them is rotten. Obviously need to replace them.

I simply can't afford to spend the £15k+ that would get this conservatory into the condition it should be in. But I have a willing joiner and have found a place that will make the windows for affordable prices. Would I be going against building regulations? What are the consequences if I do?

We inherited a hybrid 'conservatory x extension' that was in a similar state to your conservatory @OctaviaPole when we purchased our current house, although our roof was missing large sections of polycarbonate.

As we were planning to use the space to hold stuff we'd previously been paying to store after we'd sold our last house, getting the roof redone was a priority. Because the building had proper foundations etc we opted to fit a slate roof same as the rest of the property, although to err on the side of caution we added more substantial roof timbers.

Ours had smallish windows on two sides and a pair of French doors, all of which were badly rotted and poor quality single glazed. The quotes we had - including one from the joiner we used for other windows here - were high and not really what we wanted so we saved £££ by rebuilding the frontage ourselves. We bought the double glazed units and made oak frames etc. Total cost (not including roof or replastering etc) was under £2k. The transformation is amazing and the previously unusable room is used daily now....I'm very fortunate to have a handy other half!
