Are you using Muve by any chance? I’m in the same situation - sale ongoing since March, chain free, should be simple! It’s infuriating, we have looked into getting another solicitor too.

Apparently these large online firms are all based abroad with only a few staff in the UK. We just found out our main solicitor is based in Sri Lanka.

In terms of what to do, all you need to say to your current solicitor is that you’d like to close the account and request your case file if everything done so far and a bill for works done. Then you pass that file to your new solicitor and they pick it up from there. Good luck!

That's not really what happens Colachive.

OP, you can inform your solicitor that you no longer wish them to act for you and they will close their file.

Your new solicitor will ask for the file from the old solicitor, but they will most certainly start the transaction from the beginning again as they will not rely on information that the previous solicitor supplied. They need to do their own due diligence and that will mean repeating some of the work already done.
