Think electrician has broken fridge freezer

I had an EICR done yesterday. At one point the electrician turned the power off and on lots of times in quick succession (everything was clicking and bleeping).

I have a Samsung American fridge freezer. I noticed in the evening that the freezer was at -23 and the fridge 9 (normally -18 and 3). I unplugged it for 5 minutes and turned it back on again, freezer went up to normal but fridge only made it to 8 and is clearly not very cold.

Do I have any recourse here and should I let the electrician know? Obviously he didn't realise he'd done this but he didn't suggest I switch off appliances during his tests. It was working perfectly before. Just had a full Tesco shop delivered yesterday too 🙈

Yeah, I can't see how this is a coincidence since I've never had any issues before.

So fridge went back down to 3, all good. Started up again and temp has rapidly risen again. Going to try emptying the whole thing now and leaving to fully thaw out for a while.

Guessing that didn't work? When our fridge had a similar failure, though not same circumstances, it was all iced up inside, the little fan between fridge and freezer was iced over too. I actually took the panels off, access from inside the fridge, and got all the ice out by hand. I've found YouTube has some good videos of fixes with various appliances. I know we're supposed to turn computers and other sensitive electronics off in a blackout, not that we really do, I've never heard of it applying to fridges, but I guess maybe some of the new smart ones might have more sensitive parts.

It's not the fan, they're both working. I left it off for 72 hours to fully defrost. Put it on this morning and so far it's working perfectly. It could be an issue with the defrost thingy that kicks in to prevent it all frosting over, so if it is, it will no doubt happen again shortly. Then we'll have to admit defeat!

So far it's cost me 95 quid for someone to come out and check it all over, plus we bought a cheap second hand fridge to use for now. Plus 300 quid for the EICR, which he hasn't even bothered to send yet 🙄 And looking at at least 8k to rewire the place. Obviously using a different electrician though! If we need to replace, that's at least another 1k 😣 Wish I'd never bothered now!

I asked my husband as he is a qualified electrician. He said your electrician should have unplugged it beforehand.
DH has suggested you manually try resetting the fridge temperature to see if that works first. Good luck!
