CCTV doorbell

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 21/05/2023 00:27

Recommend me a good easy to fit, easy to use CCTV doorbell or camera system please.

I haven't considered one previously as our front garden is tiny and I am conscious of the issues of filming people on the street. However we're having issues with some neighbours and the police asked if we have footage when we reported criminal damage.

Any recommendations? Ideally easily compatible with android and with Google home.

Thanks

Definitely Ring. I have a wireless camera covering our driveway and it works really well. Battery lasts about 6 weeks give or take and great clear pictures

Does ring work ok with Google home or do you need an Alexa?

You can down load the alexa and ring app on to your phone. So no need to buy an alexa

Glittertwins · 21/05/2023 08:51

Ring is totally independent from Alexa.
You can also buy a the package that allows you to keep the footage for more time and gives you insurance against device damage

Ideally I would like it to be able to work with my Google home smart speakers as well as just my phone.

We've had Arlo and been pleased with it and just added two cameras for the side and back of the house. Very easy to install and all feeds to phone.

I believe it does work with google home. My friend has an alexa show and it works in there.

What made you pick the Arlo?

Is it true that you need an Arlo hub for the camera? An extra camera would be handy....

I have a Google Nest camera which works really well. Its wired into where the original doorbell sat.

LadyMargaretDevereux · 21/05/2023 11:01

We didn't buy a hub, but you have to subscribe if you want any recording.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 21/05/2023 11:03

The police have suggested a CCTV camera rather than a doorbell due to how close we are to the road they thought a high mounted camera might be better

Our neighbours and us have these after we both had stuff stolen from our front gardens.

CCTV doorbell
Jarstastic · 21/05/2023 11:12

We have got the ring wired to our old doorbell wiring so no battery power issues. Also have ring floodlight cameras wired where there were outside lights so these a bit higher up.

LadyMargaretDevereux · 21/05/2023 11:16

The Arlo sends you alerts for any movement detected and you can watch live feed. We're getting a third camera this week as dh has become obsessed with 'blind spots' as if we are in a low budget remake of Oceans 11.

That's the one the policeman recommended, he said he'd got two and was impressed. Half the price of a ring doorbell so I can get one for the front and one for the back

We have ring wireless front doorbell, needs charging every couple of months. Use the ring app. Also have another ring camera which we move eyc. Brilliant items

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 21/05/2023 16:16

FFS

Just bought the tapo got it home and realised that it needs to be plugged in, so needs a wire trailing through a hole in the wall or a window!

I hadn't appreciated some of their products are "wireless" and others are "wirefree" 😫

Feeling unreasonably upset because I was feeling so much happier that we could have something up and running for tonight and now we don't.

Next door have theirs inside their kitchen looking out of their window. Another friend has similar in an upstairs window.

OneNavyTiger · 05/06/2024 13:34

Personally, I'm all for them! It's like having an extra set of eyes on your property, ya know? Gives you that extra peace of mind when you're away or tucked up in bed at night.

I reckon having a CCTV camera at the door can be a real game-changer, especially with all the doorstep shenanigans going on these days. Packages mysteriously disappearing? Unwanted visitors lurking around? Ain't nobody got time for that!

But hey, I get it, some folks might feel a bit iffy about the whole surveillance vibe. Privacy concerns and all that jazz. Fair play. It's a balancing act, for sure.
