Your must have in a walk-in-wardobe?

I've spending 2yrs in a tiny static caravan, whilst renovating. I now have the space for a walk-in-wardrobe but working out what exactly I need/don't need. Any help/advice/do's/don't appreciated.

I have a very old-school 80s walk-in wardrobe, with three sides of rails, no drawers.

It has a very high ceiling, so two layers of shelving, also on three sides. Make use of the space above. Really good for items that are boxed for seasons.

I prefer closed doors rather than the current 'on display' trend we see these days.

Good point, *@Obeseandashamed . My WIW has a door and I'm rigorous in closing it to keep out insects. Friends who have the open wardrobes, i.e. not a wardrobe at all IMHO, bemoan the endless dust on clothes.

Yes definitely a door. Good lighting

Huge mirror, seating for switching shoes, shoe storage, bag storage

Shoe storage

Long and short hanging spaces
Pull out trouser hangers
Drawers for scarves, hats, gloves
Jewellery tray
Lots of shoe/boot storage
High shelves for not often used items
Step stool to reach the top shelves
Full length mirrors in good lighting
Drawers for perfume/makeup/toiletries if also a dressing area

Not at all unless every bedroom is at least 12 foot square with an ensuite

decent size bedrooms and bathrooms are much more important

@SwedishDeathClearance The WIW is already built, but completely bare. We have a wardrobe fitter coming next week, so was looking for ideas of what things I need to include. Yes, there is an ensuite too!

Congratulations on getting this far! I am following your tips as hoping to be able to make a plan for this in autumn when the room is built....

closed doors for me too, otherwise you have dust on the shoulders of everything (especially if you’re renovating elsewhere - the dust travels.)

Also if there’s space I like to put the ironing board up in mine rather than taking the clothes elsewhere.

Surely, it's personal preference. I'd go for the wardrobe. I have one which has shelving and railing on both sides and then storage space for shoes, suitcases etc. Definitely agree that a door is needed.
