How to remove charge on a property for sale

We sold a property we inherited. There is a charge on it but we cannot reach the person who placed it on there to pay them and to ask for it to be removed. Their last known address was overseas but we haven't had a response. The solicitor who acted for them in the UK hasnt had any contact with them for several very long years and they are no longer their client.

How can we get the charge removed quickly if we cannot reach them? This is going to delay the sale or affect it going through it we can't.

Any guidance welcomed.

I wonder if it is possible to sell the property and have the solicitor place the charging order amount into escrow so that it is securely held until the charger can be located and paid?

What does your conveyancer say? You’re paying them and it depends on the wording of the Charge restriction.

Agreed. You really need proper legal advice - check the position with your solicitor

Yes, I will review the wording. Conveyancer on leave atm hence why I'm exploring all useful advice. Thanks
