Toilet removed for floor fit - house stinks

Our downstairs loo has been taken out so a new floor can be fitted and now it absolutely stinks (the toilet hasn't been put back on) 😷

Whilst I expected some smell from the hole, it honks!

Is this a problem with the drains or is this something I should expect with a open pipe to the sewer?

Sounds pretty normal. Ours was the same when they tiled our bathroom floor.

Put clingwrap over it and tape it round temporarily. It's because there isn't water in the toilet to block the smells coming from the drain.

Maybe duct tape a really dense/thick plastic bag over the pipe try to seal it? But yeah, it will stink as it’s an open drain

This.

Ours was exactly the same. 🤢

You’d think if they do it regularly then they would have a couple of these to stop anything accidentally falling in, they are only a few quid and also seal the drain from any smells.
Or like others have said tape a plastic bag over it.

As others have said cover it with a bag or something and seal it down. This has always been done when ours have been removed, without it smell is normal.

I sealed it last night with cling film and it's a million times better. Thanks for the help and for not shouting no shit Sherlock at me!
