My house was built in the 60's. It's got a modernish consumer unit, but I think the wiring is quite old. I do get some flickering in the kitchen, but that's about it.
I've been thinking about the possibility of it needing a rewire for years and since I want to start redecorating, it's something I want to sort sooner rather than later.
I contacted an electrician who said he can do the full EICR for 250, or he can just have a good look and see what's what for 80. Obviously I don't need an actual certificate, but is it worth paying for one to get it properly checked out? Or will the electrician be able to tell just by looking at the wiring what state it's in?
