Changing carpets before we move in

We are about to move into a property that has gone through probate and has been empty since last year. The previous occupant was a lady in her 80s so the decor is understandably a bit dated.

We exchanged last week and we are hoping to complete in 3 weeks. Would it be an unreasonable request to ask if we could have access to the property to change the carpet in one of the bedrooms? Our two DC have a very heavy bunk bed that our movers will reassemble on the day we move in. It would be so much easier if we could change the carpet before the bunk bed is rebuilt, but I’m wondering if this is allowed seeing as the house isn’t technically ours yet (although we are now committed to it now that we have exchanged)?

Absolutely no harm to ask. I let my buyers do all sorts after exchange….in my mind I want them to be invested in the property! Less chance of wanting to pull out

Don't see the harm in asking provided you are willing to accept graciously if they say no.

If I were the owner I would probably be ok with it unless I had valuable stuff in the house I wanted but still hadn't cleared. In that case I would probably refuse.

Thanks both! House is completely empty and has been for months. I’ll give the estate agent a call and see what he thinks. As you say, no harm in asking.
