Semi gloss ceilings?

We have a dark kitchen and I would love to do anything I can to make it brighter. Do semi gloss ceilings really help bounce the light around?

It will be a nightmare to paint over when you realise that you don't like it.

Semi-gloss/sheen paint on ceilings is a nightmare (imo). The light just seems to bounce off of it “wrong”. I would definitely go for a matt bright white.

What is dark about your kitchen? Is it the wall colour, colour of the cabinets or worktop? Or is it that there is no natural light?
