Paying more rent than you really need to

DH and I (mid-late 20s) are professionals in London. Currently we rent a small 1 bedroom apartment in Zone 1. It’s less than 20 minutes to work. We moved in three years ago. Since then, our salaries have increased significantly. (From 100k gross to 350k). We need more space, but hate the thought of spending anymore than we currently do on rent. On paper we can easily afford a three bedroom flat which would give us an office each. We are natural savers, and want to squirrel money away so not to be stuck in careers if we decide they aren’t for us.

How do people let themselves spend more than they really need on rent without feeling wasteful?

On your salary why don’t you buy instead of renting ?

What's the point of your thread? Good for you you're well off can afford more but like to "squirrel bits away" what's your point?
